Automeris illustris Walker, 1855 is a species of moth belonging to the family Saturniidae. It was first formally described by Francis Walker in 1855. This moth species is found in South America, with confirmed occurrence in Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. The larvae of Automeris illustris feed on a very broad variety of plants. In controlled scientific tests, over 50 different plants from 28 separate plant families were accepted as food by the larvae. These plant families include Fabaceae, Rutaceae, Meliaceae, and Myrtaceae.
