About Austrostipa stipoides (Hook.f.) S.W.L.Jacobs & J.Everett

Austrostipa stipoides, which is commonly called prickly spear-grass or coast spear-grass, is a species of tussock grass native to coastal areas of south-eastern Australia and New Zealand. This grass grows in large clumps that reach approximately 80 centimeters in height. It produces smooth, rolled-in leaves that can grow 70 centimeters long and 1 millimeter wide, ending in sharp tips. Austrostipa stipoides grows on sea cliffs, at the edges of beach dunes, and in salt marshes, and it tolerates strong winds and sea spray.
