About Austrosteenisia blackii (F.Muell.) R.Geesink

Austrosteenisia blackii is a leguminous liana that grows in rainforests and dry rainforests across tropical and sub-tropical eastern Australia. It is commonly called blood vine, named for the dark red sap that oozes out when its stems are cut. Its flowers look like dark red peas, and it produces papery fruits that reach up to 12 centimetres long, containing kidney-shaped seeds. This plant is a vigorous creeper, and can be grown as ground cover in gardening. It puts on a spectacular display when it blooms, which occurs between September and December.
