About Austrolestes cingulatus (Burmeister, 1839)
Austrolestes cingulatus, commonly known as the metallic ringtail, is an Australian damselfly belonging to the family Lestidae. It is widely distributed across Tasmania, Victoria, and eastern New South Wales. This is a thin, medium-sized damselfly with coloration that ranges from green and gold to bluish green and gold. Each segment of its abdomen is marked by a pale "ring"; this feature, combined with its glossy metallic body color, gives the species its common name of metallic ringtail. It is active between October and March, and inhabits still-water bodies including rivers, lakes, ponds, swamps, and alpine bogs. It is usually found growing among vegetation.
