About Austrocochlea porcata (A.Adams, 1853)

Austrocochlea porcata (A.Adams, 1853) is a marine species. The shell of this species measures between 20 mm and 43 mm. The shell has a black-and-white banded pattern over a light grey to white base shell. It is extremely similar to the shell of Austrocochlea constricta, the southern ribbed top snail; until recently, these two species were classified as a single identical species. Compared to Austrocochlea constricta, the aperture of Austrocochlea porcata is less dilated, and its columellar tubercle is obsolete. This marine species is endemic to Australia. It can be found in waters off the coast from Central Queensland to Western Australia, and also off the coast of Tasmania.
