About Aulacomnium androgynum (Hedw.) Schwägr.

Aulacomnium androgynum, commonly called the bud-headed groovemoss, is a species of moss. It has a discontinuous circumboreal distribution that spans Eurasia and North America. It can grow on many different types of substrates, and it typically occurs in moist, bottomland habitats. This species has a distinct form of asexual reproduction: it produces a cluster of haploid vegetative structures called propagula at the tip of a long stalk. This unique trait is the reason for its common name, bud-headed groovemoss.
