Aucuba chinensis Benth. is a species of shrub or small tree. It is native to southern China, Taiwan, Burma, and northern Vietnam. It usually grows up to 6 meters tall, but can reach a larger size. Its leaves are thick, dark green on the upper surface and light green on the lower surface, and their margins sometimes bear teeth.
