About Atypichthys latus McCulloch & Waite, 1916

Atypichthys latus is a species of ray-finned fish, with common names that vary by region: it is called mado in New Zealand, and stripy or eastern footballer in Australia. This fish is found in inshore waters around southern Australia and the northeastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It occurs in waters up to about 60 meters (200 feet) deep, typically near headlands and offshore islands. This species can grow to a maximum total length of 30 centimeters (12 inches), though most individuals do not grow longer than 20 centimeters (7.9 inches). Atypichthys latus is also available in the aquarium trade.
