Its most widely used common name is the banded black carpet beetle; it also has other common names: tobacco seed beetle and wardrobe beetle. It has been recorded in North America, Oceania, and Europe. It is nearly a cosmopolitan species, and is widespread across the world's tropical and subtropical regions.
