About Atriplex leucophylla (Moq.) D.Dietr.
Atriplex leucophylla (Moq.) D.Dietr. is a short, sprawling perennial herb that grows to a maximum height of around 30 centimeters. Its branching stems trail along the ground or grow slightly upright, and can reach up to one meter (3 feet) in length. The plant produces plentiful oval-shaped leaves that measure 1 to 4 centimeters long. Its foliage, and sometimes its stems, have a rough texture from whitish scaly surfaces. This species is monoecious, meaning individual plants produce both male and female flowers. Staminate (male) flowers grow in rounded clusters and do not have bracts. Pistillate (female) flowers hold oval or round ovaries that are surrounded by spongy bracts. After flowering, these develop into fruits that contain small seeds. This species has one of the longest bloom periods in the Atriplex genus, flowering from April through October.
