The slaty brushfinch, with the scientific name Atlapetes schistaceus, is a bird species that belongs to the family Passerellidae. It inhabits humid Andean forests, with a range that extends from western Venezuela through Colombia to Ecuador. Taczanowski's brushfinch, a species found in central Peru with the scientific name A. taczanowskii, was previously classified as a subspecies of the slaty brushfinch. Additionally, the Cuzco brushfinch from southeastern Peru is sometimes categorized as a subspecies of the slaty brushfinch.
