About Athous vittatus (Fabricius, 1792)
Athous vittatus (Fabricius, 1792) is a click beetle species that reaches an adult length of roughly 8 to 12 millimetres, which equals 0.31 to 0.47 inches. Its body is covered in fine, slight hairs. The pronotum is typically dark brown, while the elytra are most often chestnut or reddish brown, marked with dark brown longitudinal stripes along the midline and outer edges. The legs are a light brown shade. This species is closely related to and looks very similar to Athous haemorrhoidalis. This species can be found across most of Europe and the Near East; it is widespread and common across England. It occurs most often in mixed and broadleaved woodlands. It inhabits plains, lowlands and highlands at elevations between 350 and 6,000 metres (1,150 to 19,690 feet) above sea level, and can be found above 1200 metres in the Alps.
