About Athene brama (Temminck, 1821)

The spotted owlet, Athene brama, is a small, stocky owl that reaches just 21 cm (8.3 inches) in length. Its upperparts are grey-brown, with heavy white spotting, while its underparts are white with brown streaking. It has a pale facial disc, yellow irises, a white neckband, and a white supercilium. Males and females are similar in appearance. It has a deeply undulating flight pattern. The nominate subspecies is darker in color than paler subspecies, such as the form indica found in drier regions.
