About Atelopus spumarius Cope, 1871

This species is commonly known as the Pebas stubfoot toad, scientifically named Atelopus spumarius Cope, 1871. Females of this species reach an adult length between 31 and 39 mm, while males only reach between 26 and 29 mm. These toads have narrow heads that taper to a point at the snout. The skin on their back is smooth, marked with pale green and black stripes and black dots. All members of this species lack a tympanum, or eardrum. Atelopus spumarius is native to South America, where it inhabits rainforest areas near blackwater streams and the Tahuayo River.
