About Atalodoris jannae (Millen, 1987)
Atalodoris jannae (Millen, 1987) is a species of sea slug, specifically a dorid nudibranch. It is a shell-less marine gastropod mollusc that belongs to the family Onchidorididae. This species has frequently been misidentified as Onchidoris muricata. It was originally named K. jannae, and is the type species of the genus Knoutsodonta. This species was first described from a specimen collected at Tyee Point, Copper Cove, British Columbia, Canada, at coordinates 49°22′8″N 123°16′5″W. Currently, its known distribution ranges from Prince William Sound, Alaska, south to Lion Rock in San Luis Obispo County, California. In the research study that established the genus Knoutsodonta, a specimen from Pillar Point, San Mateo County, California was sequenced for five genetic regions: 16S, partial 18S, partial 28S, Histone H3, and the DNA barcoding Folmer region of Cox1. A second specimen from Prince William Sound, Alaska was sequenced for 16S and H3 as part of the same investigation.
