Astragalus shortianus, commonly known as early purple milkvetch, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the Fabaceae family. This species is native to west-central United States, where it occurs in Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico. It is a perennial plant that flowers from April to July. It grows in dry, rocky soils at elevations ranging from 5,200 to 9,000 feet, or 1,600 to 2,700 meters.
