About Astragalus platytropis A.Gray

Astragalus platytropis is a milkvetch species with the common name broadkeel milkvetch. It is native to the western United States, ranging from Montana to California. It grows at high elevation within alpine and subalpine plant communities. This species is a small perennial milkvetch that forms a low patch of short silvery-green stems on rocky terrain. Its leaves can reach up to 9 cm (3.5 inches) in length, and are composed of multiple hairy leaflets. It produces an inflorescence shaped like a head, holding four to nine pale purple flowers. Each flower measures just under 1 cm (0.39 inches) long. Its fruit is a bladdery legume pod that may grow longer than 3 cm (1.2 inches).
