Astragalus malacus A.Gray is a perennial herb that grows upright, reaching a maximum height of around 40 centimeters. Its leaves can grow up to 15 centimeters long, and are composed of many oval-shaped leaflets. The inflorescence holds up to 35 magenta flowers, each of which measures up to 2 centimeters in length. The stem, leaves, inflorescence, and sepals are all covered in long, white hairs. The fruit produced by this species is a densely hairy, papery legume pod that can reach up to 4 centimeters in length.
