About Astragalus layneae Greene

Astragalus layneae Greene is a small perennial herb that grows from a deep rhizome, producing erect stems that reach no more than about 16 centimeters in height. Its leaves are composed of numerous oval to rounded leaflets, and both the stems and leaves are covered in gray-green hairs. The inflorescence is covered in dark hairs and holds up to 45 flowers. Each individual flower measures between one and two centimeters long, with white petals that have bright purple tips and streaks. The fruit is a hanging legume pod that can grow up to 6.5 centimeters long; it is curved in shape, with a leathery, hairy texture.
