About Astragalus alopecurus Pall.

Astragalus alopecurus Pall. is a plant species that grows 50 to 90 centimeters (20 to 35 inches) tall. It has hairy stems that reach about 10 millimeters in diameter. Its leaves are petiolated, measuring 20 to 30 centimeters (7.9 to 11.8 inches) long, with a rachis covered in ascending hairs. The leaflets are ovate to elliptic in shape, arranged in 20 to 25 pairs. Its inflorescences form clusters that are either subsessile or have a peduncle up to 1 centimeter long; the clusters are ovoid to cylindrical, and measure 5 to 9.5 centimeters (2.0 to 3.7 inches) long, while the bracts reach 10 to 20 millimeters (0.39 to 0.79 inches) in length. The petals of this species are yellow and glabrous, and it blooms from June through August. Astragalus alopecurus has a wide native range, extending from Europe, including Bulgaria, Italy, France, and eastern European Russia, to temperate Asia, including the Caucasus, Iran, Kazakhstan, Siberia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Xinjiang, China. It grows in mountain regions at elevations between 1,400 and 2,000 meters (4,600 to 6,600 feet) above sea level.
