About Asterropteryx semipunctata Rüppell, 1830
Asterropteryx semipunctata, commonly known as the starry goby, is a species of true goby in the family Gobiidae. It is a widely distributed species, with a range extending from the Red Sea and Persian Gulf to Hawaii and the Line Islands, north to Japan, south to Lord Howe Island, and also found in Western Australia and New South Wales. This goby occurs on algae-covered reef rocks, and among rubble on inner reef flats and in turbid lagoons. It hides in burrows and holes within the reef, and feeds on small benthic invertebrates. Individuals of this species can be either solitary or found living in small groups. It is the designated type species of the genus Asterropteryx.
