Asterella bolanderi (Austin) Underw. is a liverwort that belongs to the Aytoniaceae family. This species grows in chaparral undergrowth and on shady banks. It is commonly found in Northern California below 3000 feet in elevation, and its distribution extends along the coast down into Southern California. Two other species in the Asterella genus are A. californica and A. palmeri.
