About Asplenium vespertinum Maxon

Asplenium vespertinum Maxon is a fern species commonly called western spleenwort. It is native to southern California and Baja California, where it grows in moist, shady, rocky locations, including the shaded areas under cliff overhangs. Its leaves grow in dense clusters, reaching up to approximately 30 centimeters (12 inches) long. Each leaf consists of 20 to 30 narrow leaflets that have lobed edges. A small number of sori grow on the underside of each leaflet.
