About Asplenium hemionitis L.

Asplenium hemionitis L. is a species of fern. This fern is native to Macaronesia, Northwest Africa, and mainland Portugal. It grows in humid woods and other shady areas, and it can sometimes be found on exposed slopes that experience high ocean humidity. Two accepted infraspecific taxa are currently recognized. The first is Asplenium hemionitis var. hemionitis, which is found in Algeria, the Azores, the Canary Islands, the Cape Verde Islands, Madeira, Morocco, and Portugal. The second is Asplenium hemionitis var. longilobatum G.Kunkel, which is restricted to La Gomera in the Canary Islands. Linnaeus was the first to formally describe this species under the binomial name Asplenium hemionitis, publishing the description in his work Species Plantarum in 1753.
