About Aspitates gilvaria (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Aspitates gilvaria (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775 has a wingspan of 25–30 mm. Its graduated buff-colored forewing has a red or brown diagonal slash extending from the wing tip to the inner edge. The hindwings are white, with a faint diagonal grey streak and a dot on the upper surface. Males have combed antennae. Females are more mottled than males and have less combed antennae. Newly laid eggs are light green; their color changes from reddish yellow to grey just before caterpillars hatch. The pole and base of the egg are orange. The egg surface is covered with roughly 50 longitudinal ribs. The micropyle rosette has ten to eleven lobes, and is surrounded by a large-mesh network. Larvae are ochreous grey, with a blackish, ochreous-edged dorsal line and multiple other fine darker and paler longitudinal lines.
