About Askellia elegans (Hook.) W.A.Weber

Askellia elegans, commonly known as the elegant hawksbeard, is a plant species classified in the tribe Cichorieae of the family Asteraceae, native to North America. Its native range includes central and western Canada, covering Yukon, the Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, as well as the northwestern United States, covering Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming. It is a perennial herb that grows up to 30 cm (12 inches) tall, featuring a deep taproot and a large underground caudex. Its stems may grow erect, or may trail along the ground. A single plant can produce more than 100 small flower heads; each flower head contains 6 to 10 yellow ray florets, and has no disc florets.
