About Asclepias viridiflora Raf.

Asclepias viridiflora Raf. has the common names green comet milkweed, green-flower milkweed, and green milkweed. It is a widely distributed milkweed species (genus Asclepias) found across most of the eastern and central United States, ranging from Connecticut to Georgia, Arizona, and Montana, and also occurs in southern Canada and northern Mexico. Its Latin specific epithet viridiflora translates to green-flowered. This species is an erect to ascending herb that grows up to 50 cm tall, and produces distinctive greenish-white flowers. The seed pods do not have the warts and tubercules that are common on many other Asclepias species. It grows in moist to dry shaded environments including roadsides, fields, and prairies.
