About Asclepias humistrata Walter

Asclepias humistrata Walter grows between 0.3 and 0.9 meters (0.98 to 2.95 feet) tall. Its leaves are arranged oppositely, occurring in 5 to 8 pairs. The leaves are ovate in shape, measuring 6 to 10 centimeters (approximately 2 to 4 inches) long and 4.5 to 8.5 centimeters (about 1.77 to 3.35 inches) wide. Its flowers are a mix of pink, lavender, and white, and it blooms during spring and summer. This species is endemic to the southeastern United States. Its natural range extends from North Carolina south to Florida, and west to Louisiana. A. humistrata grows in a variety of habitat types, including sand dunes, scrub oak sand ridges, pine-palmetto thickets, and longleaf pine-scrub oak ridges. It has also been observed growing in disturbed areas, such as alongside roads.
