About Artemisia gmelinii Weber ex Stechm.

Artemisia gmelinii Weber ex Stechm. is a perennial shrub that can reach up to 150 cm (4.9 ft) in height. It produces thick, mossy leaves that are elliptic in shape and bi-pinnately dissected. Its spherical inflorescences are densely arranged. This species is native to China, Russia, Japan, and other areas of central Asia, and it grows in a wide range of habitats including hills, meadows, roadsides, slopes, and forest steppes. Artemisia gmelinii contains veratric acid, flavonoids, sesquiterpenes and other bioactive constituents, and it has an essential oil content of 1%. In Korean practice, the leaf and stem of this plant are used to treat hepatitis, hyperlipaemia, and infected cholecystitis. Dried parts of the plant are also used in traditional Chinese medicine.
