About Artedius lateralis (Girard, 1854)

Artedius lateralis, commonly called the smoothhead sculpin or round-nosed sculpin, is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the Cottidae family, the group that includes typical sculpins. This species is native to the northern Pacific Ocean, ranging from Russia and the Bering Sea to Baja California. It is most commonly found in the intertidal zone, and can occur at depths down to 43 feet. It reaches a maximum recorded length of 14 centimeters, and gets its common name from its scaleless head.
