About Arta statalis Grote, 1875

This species, Arta statalis Grote, 1875, is commonly known as the posturing arta moth. This moth has a wingspan of approximately 15 mm. When resting, it tucks its hindwings behind its forewings, and holds its yellow-brown antennae flat behind the head and over the wings. Its forewings have varying shades of brown, divided from each other by thin, pale lines. The posturing arta moth occurs in North America, and has been recorded in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. It prefers habitats including woodlands, residential areas, and lake shorelines. Very little is known about the diet of this species. Its larval host plants have not been identified, and adult posturing arta moths may not feed at all.
