About Arothron immaculatus (Bloch & Schneider, 1801)
The immaculate puffer, scientifically named Arothron immaculatus (Bloch & Schneider, 1801), is a species of pufferfish. It has a rounded body with a short tail, and lacks scales as well as a distinct lateral line. Its base body color is grey or light brown, and it can change this color to a mottled grey-green, which is presumed to be used for camouflage. Its lips and iris are yellow, and its caudal fin is yellow with a black border. This species is distributed across the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, ranging from the northern coast of Australia, through Indonesia, westward to Madagascar and the east coast of Africa. It typically inhabits sandy bottoms near reefs and lagoons, down to a depth of 30 meters, and is often found hunting in patches of isolated rubble and in seagrass meadows.
