About Arothron diadematus (Rüppell, 1829)

This species, Arothron diadematus (Rüppell, 1829), reaches a maximum length of 30 centimeters. Its body is colored olive-green or grey, with a black mask covering the eyes and pectoral fins, and a black border along the mouth. It is typically solitary, but forms schools during the mating season. Some authors consider this taxon to be a variation of the species Arothron nigropunctatus. It is found only in the Red Sea, where it associates with coral reef habitats ranging from the surface down to 20 meters depth.
