About Armadillidium pulchellum (Zenker, 1798)

This species reaches an adult length of approximately 5 millimetres, or 0.20 inches. Its body is marked with scattered yellow spots, and the edges of its pereonites are often tinted red-brown. It has a broad telson with a rounded, truncated shape. The first pereonite has a chamfered edge, which distinguishes it from related species like Armadillidium vulgare, where the first pereonite tapers to a smooth point. This species cannot form a complete closed ball when rolling up for protection; a small gap remains when it contracts into a roll.
