About Armadillidium klugii Brandt, 1833
Armadillidium klugii reaches a maximum length of 21 millimetres, which is larger than the 18 millimetre maximum length of Armadillidium vulgare. Most Armadillidium species typically have black dorsal plates, but A. klugii has a greyish brown base color, with three front-to-back rows of white dots across its back. As individuals age, the center row of these dots turns yellow. The pale spots function as mimicry of the Mediterranean black widow, which has similar spot rows. The distribution of Armadillidium klugii follows the Adriatic Sea coastline, stretching from Croatia to Montenegro. Most recorded specimens of A. klugii are clustered in Dalmatia, at the northern end of the species' range. Five specimens have additionally been reported from southern Albania and western Greece. This species is found living under stones and in crevices.
