About Aristotelia peduncularis (Labill.) Hook.fil.

Aristotelia peduncularis (Labill.) Hook.fil. is a straggly woody monoecious shrub with slender arching branches that grow up to 1.5 metres tall. Its leaves range in size from 2 to 7 centimetres, and are generally ovate to lanceolate with toothed margins, though they may occasionally be deeply lobed. Leaves can be arranged opposite, alternate, or in whorls of three. Flowers bloom in summer; they are hermaphroditic, white, and campanulate. Flowers are borne singly, or sometimes in groups of 2–3, from long peduncles at leaf axils. Each petal is triple-lobed, forming a fringe, and the inside of the flower may have pink-purple markings. The fruit is a fleshy, roughly heart-shaped berry, which can be deep purple-black, red, pink, or white in colour. This species is widespread but found only in Tasmania, where it occurs more commonly in the south. It is relatively abundant in the understorey of consistently moist, shady wet forests, and is often found on mountain slopes and in fern gullies at elevations between 60 and 600 metres.
