Aristolochia maxima Jacq. is a woody vine liana plant species. It is native to Central and South America, and has become naturalized in southern Florida. Its common names vary by region: in the US it is called Florida Dutchman's-pipe, canastilla in Guatemala, guaco in El Salvador, and tecolotillo in Mexico. In Florida, this species grows in hammocks within the Everglades, at elevations below 50 m (170 feet). As a climbing liana, it twines around other plants and can reach a height of 20 m (67 feet). Its leaves have bases ranging from truncate to cuneate in shape, and its flowers are brownish-purple.
