Aristida dichotoma Michx. is a species of grass commonly called churchmouse threeawn, fork-tip three-awn, pigbutt three-awn, and poverty grass. It is also sometimes known by the alternate common names beard grass and branching aristida. This grass originates from eastern North America, and is native to the Eastern and Midwestern United States as well as Ontario, Canada. It has been introduced to the state of California. The species was first formally described in 1803 by botanist André Michaux. Its specific epithet "dichotoma" comes from the Latin word meaning "forked".
