About Ariadne enotrea (Cramer, 1782)
Ariadne enotrea, commonly known as the African castor, is a butterfly species that belongs to the Nymphalidae family. This species can be found in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its natural habitat includes forests, particularly disturbed areas within forests, and heavy woodland. The caterpillar larvae of Ariadne enotrea feed on multiple Tragia species, specifically T. benthami, T. volubilis, T. brevipes, and also on Dalechampia ipomaefolia.
