About Arhopala madytus Fruhstorfer, 1914
Arhopala madytus, commonly known as the bright oakblue, is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. The species was first described by Hans Fruhstorfer in 1914. It can be found on New Guinea and its adjacent islands (Aru, Ambon, Waigeu, areas from Western New Guinea to Papua, Woodlark, and the Louisiades), as well as on the north-east coast of Queensland, Australia. Its wingspan is around 40 mm. It is similar to Arhopala meander, but has a lighter bluish-violet colour on the upper wing surfaces. On the underside of the wings, particularly the forewing has dark longitudinal stripes over a hoary whitish-grey ground colour. The larvae of this butterfly feed on Terminalia catappa, T. melanocarpa, T. sericocarpa, and Hibiscus tiliaceus. The larvae are attended by the ant species Oecophylla smaragdina.
