About Arhopala democritus
Arhopala democritus, commonly known as the white-dot oakblue, is a lycaenid butterfly species first described by Johann Christian Fabricius in 1793. This species is distributed across Southeast Asia, including Burma, Thailand, Mergui, Indochina, Langkawi, Peninsular Malaya, Singapore, Sumatra, and Borneo. The upper side of the male's wings is Morpho-blue. Females also have bright blue upper wings, though their blue is less reflective than the male's, with a broad black marginal band on the forewing. This band starts thin before the centre of the costa, grows to 5 mm wide behind the cell, and tapers back to a thin edge at the anal angle. The under wing surface is particularly distinct: on a dark chestnut-brown base, all wing rings and bands are broken into small comma-shaped marks and dots, making the original chain patterns barely visible.
