About Arhopala centaurus (Fabricius, 1775)
This species is Arhopala centaurus (Fabricius, 1775). Male. Upperside: Very dark blue with a violaceous tint, with a fine black outer marginal border and black cilia. It has a rather broad black tail at the end of vein 2, and a slight angular black projection at the end of vein 1. The abdominal space is pale. Underside: On the forewing, the basal half above the median vein is dark violet-brown, and the outer portion above that vein is somewhat paler; the lower portion of the wing is pale ochreous brown. There is a large round spot inside the cell near the base, a large bar in the middle, and an even larger bar at the end. These markings are very slightly darker than the ground colour, and are defined by their very prominent pale blue edgings. A small pale ringed spot sits on the costa, above the outer bar, with an oblique angled spot below it on its inner side, and a round spot below the middle bar; both of these spots are edged with pale blue. There is a discal band of large, conjoined, more or less square spots that increase in size hindwards to vein 2, where it is joined on its inner edge to a large square spot in the next interspace. All of these markings are edged on both sides with whitish. A sub-terminal series of pale brown, somewhat indistinct spots is present, alongside some terminal brown suffusion. The hindwing is uniformly ochreous-brown with a violet tint. All brown markings, which are somewhat darker than the ground colour, are edged with pale whitish. Three spots near the base sit in a straight row, followed by two in a row, with three small spots curving towards the abdominal margin. Two large square spots are joined together from the middle of the costa. The rest of the wing is covered with five bands of disconnected spots spaced at equal distances apart. On the sub-terminal series, the three spots near the anal angle are black, capped with metallic blue-green scales, and edged outwardly by a fine white line. Female. Upperside: Paler than the male, and more violaceous-blue. The forewing has a very broad, inconspicuous black costal border, and the outer margin is also blackish, but to a smaller degree. Underside is identical to that of the male, but paler. Antennae are black; palpi are black, and white beneath. The head and body match the colour of the wings on both the upperside and underside.
