About Argyrodes antipodianus O.Pickard-Cambridge, 1880
Argyrodes antipodianus typically measures between 2 and 3 millimeters in total length, with size varying between sexes and between individual spiders. The species’ carapace and legs are dark brown, while its abdomen is a distinct bright silver color with a conical shape. This silver abdomen gives the species its common name, the dew drop spider. Argyrodes antipodianus is found in eastern Australia, New Caledonia, and most of New Zealand. It is not present in the southern half of New Zealand’s South Island; researchers have proposed this absence is caused by the species’ preference for warmer habitats.
