About Argiope ocyaloides L.Koch, 1871

Argiope ocyaloides L.Koch, 1871 is a species of orb-web spider native to Queensland, Australia. It is commonly called the bark-hugging St Andrews cross spider. Individuals of this species live in crevices in dark-colored bark on trees such as eucalyptus and acacia. This species is smaller than most other Argiope species, and its body ranges from dark brown to black in color. It has a long abdomen ending in a pointed tip, which distinguishes it from the similar species Argiope mascordi, that has a shorter, rounded-tipped abdomen.
