About Arge berberidis Schrank, 1802

Arge berberidis, formally named Arge berberidis Schrank, 1802, can reach a body length of about 9.2 millimetres, or 0.36 inches. Adult individuals have a bluish-black head and body, with brown wings. The saw sheath of this species is tongue-shaped. Larvae have a black head, a greyish body marked with many small black spots and some yellowish blotches. This sawfly occurs across most of Europe, and has been recorded in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany, mainland Denmark, mainland Spain, France, mainland Greece, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, European Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. These sawflies can be found on species of the genera Mahonia and Berberis.
