About Arenostola phragmitidis Hübner, 1803

Scientific name: Arenostola phragmitidis Hübner, 1803. Technical description and variation: For A. phragmitidis Hbn. (synonyms: semicana Esp., verecunda Ev., moravitzii Men.) (49 d): Forewings are very smooth, pale ochreous, shifting to pale brownish red toward the termen, with dark-tipped fringes. Hindwings are pale greyish ochreous. The aberration rufescens Tutt (49 d) is flushed entirely with deep flesh colour. The aberration pallida Tutt (49 e), which is the common British form, is smooth pale ochreous all over. The new aberration olivescens (49 e) is smooth olive grey, with dark grey hindwings. The larva is bone-coloured, with a broad, somewhat interrupted subdorsal line of purplish-fuscous, and similar but narrower lateral lines. It has a black head and a brown thoracic plate. The wingspan of this moth species measures 32–36 mm.
