About Ardisia crispa (Thunb.) A.DC.

Ardisia crispa, commonly called Japanese holly, is a flowering plant species that belongs to the family Primulaceae. Its native range includes the eastern Himalayas, Assam, southern China, Indochina, Taiwan, Korea, the Ryukyu Islands, and Japan. It has been intentionally introduced to Queensland, Australia, and the Windward Islands in the Caribbean. This species is an evergreen perennial shrub that grows to a maximum height of 1.5 meters (5 feet). It is frequently sold as an ornamental plant, valued for its dark green foliage and long-lasting red berries. It shares these characteristics with Ardisia crenata, which is commonly known as Christmas berry or coralberry.
