About Arctosa perita (Latreille, 1799)
Mature Arctosa perita of both sexes have a total body length of 6.5–9 mm (0.26–0.35 inches), though males are generally smaller. The carapace most commonly ranges from brown to grey, but can also appear black. Dark streaks radiate outward from the fovea, and white hairs form broken lateral bands along the posterior half of the carapace. The sternum is heart-shaped and brownish-black in colour. The abdomen is brown, and paler in colour toward its sides. It usually bears a greyish cardiac mark, which is flanked on each side by a pair of pinkish-white patches, with smaller white spots positioned behind these patches. This pattern repeats at the rear of the abdomen, on either side of a pale brown median band. The legs are robust and pale, marked with distinct dark annulations. Both the legs and palps are covered in setae and spines. The posterior eyes have small patches of white hairs on their sides and rear, and the anterior median eyes (AME) are larger than the anterior lateral eyes (ALE).
