About Archytas apicifer (Walker, 1849)

Archytas apicifer (Walker, 1849) is a species belonging to the family Tachinidae within the order Diptera, the two-winged true flies. Tachinidae is counted as the second most species-rich family among all the diverse Diptera families, with approximately 10,000 species found across the world. Many tachinid fly species act as economically important parasites of other arthropods. Multiple genera in this family have robust bodies, bright, distinct patterning, and most have noticeable conspicuous bristles on the head, or on the 4th through 6th abdominal segments of the body. This species, Archytas apicifer, has been recorded in Canada, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Saint Vincent, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador.
