About Arachniodes aristata (G.Forst.) Tindale
Arachniodes aristata is a fern species belonging to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is a glossy fern that produces fronds reaching up to 1 meter (equal to 3 feet 3 inches) in length. The type specimen of this species was collected by George Forster during his travel on James Cook's second voyage, from an unknown island located in the Pacific Ocean. This plant was first formally described under the name Polypodium aristatum in 1786. The publication that included this formal description, Florulae Insularum Australium Prodromus, was released by George Forster's father, Johann Reinhold Forster. The specific epithet "aristata" comes from Latin, and it translates to "bearing a bristle".
